Time To Enter Into Rest

So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God. For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world.

Hebrews 4:9,10 NLT

The life of a Christian is to be a life of trust and confidence in God. This trust in God looks like a full assurance that what God has said in the Bible is the truth, and the truth when submitted to has the power to transform a life to the glory of God. When a Christian lives by faith in God and walks by the truth of the Word of God, rest is entered into. This is the rest of faith. In this rest of faith the Word of God has the supremacy and the preeminence.

There is no greater example of this rest of faith - this full persuasion that the Word of God is authoritative truth - than what the Bible has recorded of the responses of Jesus' mother Mary. At the announcement of her immaculate conception, Mary told the angel: "Let it be to me according to your word" (Luke 1:38). Later on Mary tells the servants at the wedding in Cana of Galilee to do whatever Jesus tells them to do (John 2:5). Mary demonstrates what it is to have child-like faith, a pure unquestionable trust in what God says. This pure trust is what walking by faith is. It is a confident assurance that when we do what God says to do it will go well for us, as it did to those at the wedding in Cana.

Are you fully persuaded today that the Word of God is a firm unchanging truth and will bear the fruit of eternal life it states it will bear in your life? It is easy to discern how much you trust the Bible by evaluating your degree of confidence and submission to His Word. The clearest place to see this is by taking a closer look at the daily thoughts you mull over and attend to in your mind. Are these thoughts of dread, anxiousness and confusion? Or are these thoughts of confidence, gladness and peace? This is how you determine if you believe the Bible and what God says in the Bible. Faith in the Word of God produces a confident trust that positions you into an eternal rest, knowing that God in you is for you and has provided all you will ever need in life!

This place of the rest of faith is the place of confident joy, a knowing that IT IS FINISHED (John 19:30). This is what a Christian has access to - the life of God that has entered into rest because the works were completed from the foundation of the world (Hebrews 4:3).

Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said: “So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest,’ ” although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

Hebrews 4:1-3

For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

2Corinthians 4:17,18

For we walk by faith, not by sight.

2Corinthians 5:7

For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”

Romans 1:17
