The Battle Is Won!

But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity.

Ephesians 2:13-16

The spiritual battle has been won so that we can now be made one with our God. Through the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ, there is no longer a separation from God because there is no more enmity between God and man. Jesus has secured an eternal victory for man. This is a victory over Satan's dominion hold over man. Sin was the dominion hold that Satan had over God's creation. The enmity that sin had brought between God and man has been abolished through the cross and we now have full access to our God.

The battle over sin has been won! Jesus went down to Satan's turf - hell - and defeated all evil powers and principalities and might and evil dominions - "having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it." (Colossians 2:14,15)

Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. (Romans 6:3,4)

Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace. (Romans 6:12-14)

Therefore, the ground that the enemy held has been gained by God and there is no more back-and-forth battling that God will ever do with Satan. Satan is defeated forever and ever and ever! The only battle that potentially still rages is in the unrenewed carnal mind of the born again believer. When we lack full persuasion of what Jesus accomplished for us we can yield to the deception of Satan and live as mere men when we have been made a glorious new God-creation. This is why the Apostle Paul commends us to contend for this liberty of the gospel of our salvation and instructs the Colossians to not allow anyone to cheat them of the reward that the saving work of Christ has secured (Colossians 2:18).

As we continue to abide in the source of God's persuasion (His Word, which is spirit and life) we are renewing our minds to the full assurance of faith - the victory has been won and the battle now over. All strivings to earn eternal salvation have now ceased through the revelation of this rest that now remains - faith in Christ.

Jesus Christ has enabled us to walk in overwhelming victory. Through Him we are more than conquerors. His victory over sin, death and hell has been given to us and His triumphant lead is now always in every place. Let us walk in such a way - demonstrating that the battle is indeed over and has been won forever!
