Strength To Overcome

For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.

1John 5:4 ESV

Do not be afraid and anxious, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

Luke 12:32 AMPL

To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Colossians 1:27 ESV

Strength to overcome resides in us. This strength is the Lord Jesus Christ living out His life through us by the power of the Holy Spirit. When we became born-again God moved in us and took up residence. This is the most glorious reality of the Christian life - that it is no longer I (my old fresh and blood life) living life but it is Jesus in me - our resurrected King.

Jesus has overcome and conquered all and He now lives in the Christian believer. This is why we are now more than conquerors though Him and the gates of hell can not prevail against us (Romans 8:37, Matthew 16:18). Our life in Christ is a life of resurrection and power. This is a life of dominion. In Christ we walk in the authority granted to us in His name - the name that is above every name. In the name of Jesus we have access to weapons that are mighty in God to the pulling down of strongholds. We can now subdue and overcome all circumstance by allowing His life to manifest in and through us.

We of ourselves can do nothing, but in Christ we can do all things because He is now our strength (Philippians 4:13). Yield to His strength by allowing His Word to persuade you. Submit your mind to the Word of God and be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Become confident that the mighty Holy Spirit is in you desiring to manifest His life to the world. This divine life is a life that has overcome death and all impossibility. Live out this victorious life and do not be yoked again with the enslavement of the world (Galatians 5:1).

But if God himself has taken up residence in your life, you can hardly be thinking more of yourself than of him. Anyone, of course, who has not welcomed this invisible but clearly present God, the Spirit of Christ, won’t know what we’re talking about. But for you who welcome him, in whom he dwells—even though you still experience all the limitations of sin—you yourself experience life on God’s terms. It stands to reason, doesn’t it, that if the alive-and-present God who raised Jesus from the dead moves into your life, he’ll do the same thing in you that he did in Jesus, bringing you alive to himself? When God lives and breathes in you (and he does, as surely as he did in Jesus), you are delivered from that dead life. With his Spirit living in you, your body will be as alive as Christ’s!

So don’t you see that we don’t owe this old do-it-yourself life one red cent. There’s nothing in it for us, nothing at all. The best thing to do is give it a decent burial and get on with your new life. God’s Spirit beckons. There are things to do and places to go!
