In that day, he who is on the housetop, and his goods are in the house, let him not come down to take them away. And likewise the one who is in the field, let him not turn back. Remember Lot’s wife. Whoever seeks to save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it.
~ Jesus, Luke 17:31-33

This is 'that' day! This is the day to not look back longing at what was and is no more. This is the day to remember Lot's wife. This is not the time to become a pillar of salt but to be a beacon of light. We are to be the salt of the Earth by releasing the light of the world - our Jesus, and thus savouring the Earth with the knowledge of the glory of our God. This is not the time to look back idly and longingly and be inactive in the kingdom of God.
We are to step forth boldly, forward and upward, into the mountain of God - the mount of transfiguration, mount Zion where only His life in us lives and is seen. We are on a mission of kingdom advancement and not personal self-preservation. Salt is to preserve. We are not called to preserve ourselves and our lives, as Lot's wife desired (looking back at the loss of self and personal comfort). On the contrary, we are called to be a preserving agent for others in this world by sharing the gospel of Christ and the saving message of His truth. Our desire is that all man be saved and come to the knowledge of God.
In this end-time hour we are to be mindful to lay down our lives by forsaking personal ambition and selfish motivation. The Bible tells us to put off the old man, our former conduct, that grows corrupt through deceitful lusts, and to put on the new Christ-man that is renewed daily in conformity to God (Ephesians 4:22-24). We have been placed here on this Earth with an assignment. This assignment is to communicate the gospel of our salvation - that Jesus is the only way to God. There is no other way nor is there any other name given under Heaven by which men must be saved (Acts 4:12).
Do not lose sight of the upward call in God by looking back longing for something that is no more. Remember Lot's wife. Run your race with endurance, looking forward unto Jesus who is the author and completer of your faith. Thank God today for separating you from all past ensnarement and deception. Do not be entangled again with the sin that can easily ensnare us when we behold an old reality. You are a new creation of God, born-again and are of God now. Do His bidding alone by following Him singularly with your gaze.
Let me tell you why you are here. You’re here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness? You’ve lost your usefulness and will end up in the garbage.
Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.
~ Jesus, Matthew 5:13-16 MSG
