Faith Is Of The Unseen

Updated: Nov 29, 2021

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

2Corinthians 4:18 NIV

Faith is of the unseen. Faith in God is based on the Word of God. The Bible is the Word of God and the only foundation of the Christian faith. Only through the 'it is written' in the Bible can we truly know God because solely the 'it is written' produces faith in the unseen God.

Jesus the Son of God is the Word of God (John 1:1, 14 & Revelation 19:13). Jesus spoke of Himself: “Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God— [To fulfill] what is written of Me in the scroll of the book.’” (Hebrews 10:7 AMP). Jesus shows us that the will of God for us is found in the Word of God and is executed by faith that His Word alone can produce. Just as Jesus picked up the scroll of Isaiah in Luke chapter 4 and read what was spoken of Him and the ministry assigned to Him, we too are to pick up the Word of God and find ourselves in the assignment of Jesus on Earth.

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,

Because He has anointed Me

To preach the gospel to the poor;

He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,

To proclaim liberty to the captives

And recovery of sight to the blind,

To set at liberty those who are oppressed;

To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”

Luke 4:18,19

The Apostle Paul also quotes Isaiah in the book of Romans by telling us that the way we obey God is by faith and that faith comes through the Word of God (Romans 10:16,17). Without believing the report of the Lord (His Word) we can not obey God. Christians are part of the body of Christ and are called into this obedience of faith. As we submit to the Word, the Holy Spirit moves us into the works of Jesus. Jesus tells us: "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father." (John 14:12). These works are the works of faith. Faith in God gives expression to the work of God. The Holy Spirit is our guide and He leads us into these greater works.

Today as we trust the unseen God and are led by His Spirit, we are walking by faith. Walking out this faith of the unseen brings about glory to our God in the seen. The works of Christ that God performs through His body on Earth bring God glory and great renown. This is why we as Christians, born of the Spirit of God, are to walk by faith and not by sight. That which we see in the natural is brief and fleeting, but that which is of faith, of the eternal Spirit of God, is everlasting.

In Christ you are called into conformity with the Son of God and predestined to walk in the glory of God - both are done by faith! So put your eyes back on the Word of God. Allow the Word to cultivate the faith of the Son of God that resides within you and step out boldly under the lead of the Holy Spirit so that all men may see God.

"Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified."

Romans 8:27-30
