Born Of God

But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.

The Spirit of Christ resides in the born again believer. This believer is not of the old carnal man but is born from above, born of God - spiritually re-born. This is who we truly, truly are! And that is why Paul writes in Romans 8:11 that now the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in us and that He who raised Christ from the dead gives life to our mortal bodies through His Spirit who lives in us. We now have the inner working of the Spirit of God and are led by the Most High God and not by the dictates of lower earthly existence.

In 1Corinthians 6:12 we read that “All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me but I will not be brought under the power of any.” I have often meditated this verse and especially the end of that verse, where Paul qualifies what he means by all things not being helpful. Even though all things are lawful for me, they are not all beneficial because some things have a binding enslaving power.

The meditation point is that we as children of God, born of the Spirit of God are not to allow that which is legally earthly-permissible to bind us. We are not to be brought under the power of any thing. The NIV translation of that portion of scripture reads: ""I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything." This means that my sole Master is God and all else that wants to put me under submission is not only not edifying to me but is bondage to me.

As a child of God, I am born from above and anything that is putting me under, enslaving me, is not working right for me. It is not of God. I am now from above. In the Spirit-world I am above all things, submitted to God, my Heavenly Father (the one I am born of). The only thing beneficial to me is that which communicates that “I am from above” - that which elevates me in my conscience that I am now of God in Christ Jesus. And because I have died with Him (baptized into His death) I have been now raised up with Him into newness of life. My new life is a life from above. This might seem elementary, but it is actually very profound to be able to live life from this revelation. The revelation that in Christ I am above all and there is no pressure on my outer man to perform, but I just know that I am from above and I am above all things. I know that I am!

In 1Corinthians 4:6 Paul also writes “that you may learn in us not to think beyond what is written.” What that means to me is to reign-in one's mind in the Word of God - to discipline your mind and allow the voice of God to reign you in so you follow after Him alone. Do not think beyond that which is written. Do not allow anything of what is not written to subdue you. It is not beneficial to you. That which is beneficial is what is written of Him and that which He has written of you. Get to know yourself in light of what He has written of you. Get to know yourself after the Spirit-man, the born again you, You are clothed in Christ now! You have the very glory of God, the very reflection of your Heavenly Father.

Just because at times I may be still more aware of the carnal old-man it does not mean I stop pressing to attain to this higher reality. Keep going back to the mirror of the Word of God and acquaint yourself with who you are now. Keep going back to the mirror reacquainting yourself with your new you. Keep looking at the mirror! Keep flipping the pages of your Bible - reading and dancing with an exclamation of joy: “Oh God I am brand new today! I am new! You made me new today! I do not have to be under that which is not beneficial for me God. I do not have to be subject to that which is not working for your glory today, Father. I do not have to be submitted to some evil ruler of an evil thought, I can bring it down because now I am of You Father and as You are dominion and power and might and glory I am too here on Earth dominion and power and might and glory. You have given me a say-so now. Your very voice is trumping and moving my voice Father, so I be not subject to a lower voice. I am not subject to accusation and guilt and condemnation, but You have taken me up from the lower realm of Hades, of human existence, of demonic interference, up above all and now I am placed far above so I can have the far above thoughts as I behold You Father.”

What a glorious new existence. What a glorious new reality that we can grow in and run in and be freer and freer and freer yet. We go from glory to glory as our mind is renewed by His divine Word, by the divine inspiration of the Holy Spirit. As the Holy Spirit brings to remembrance the utterances of God, we are donning glory. We are born of God, bearing His glorious image with a liberty of mind - transferred out of the kingdom of darkness and now dwell in His Light.

The utterance of the Voice of God is our truth. His Word is His truth and I do not think anything beyond that which is written. I know I am a child of God, born of God and am far above all. Glory be to God!
